You want to travel? You want to experte the most amazing trips with your family?

The only problem is, you have no idea where to start, or what to do. And you probably don’t want to go for one of those guided tours, you want to travel with just your family.

But neither are you loaded with cash, you’ve got to plan for your trip.Believe it or not, planning a trip can feel like both, the most exciting and the most overwhelming part of travel.

planning to take the family on a vacation doesn’t have to be the source of a constant anxiety and overwhelm. So you must wondering, how to plan a big family vacation?

Will, in this blog post I listed the most important planning techniques, that me and my family always use when we want to take a trip.

NOTE: these techniques are based on our personal experience, and trust me they will serve you the most, if you are planning a family trip.

First thing foremost before you even think about where you want to go, you have to figure out how much you are willing and able to spend on your trip. Because this will really determine where you’re actually able to travel to, how long you can afford to go for, and all sorts of things like that.

And we all know that a big family trip took a little bit longer, and sometimes requires more cash.

So the first thing you want to do is to try to get a ballpark estimate of how much you have to work with.

The next thing you would do is

  • Check the cost of transportation from your home to that place, whether that’s a flight, a train, a bus, whatever it is, just look into how much it’s gonna cost to get there. Because that can really determine whether you’re actually able to travel there. If you are looking for a flight, you should chick Skyscanner.com or Kiwi.com . Just go on their site, or download the apps and figure out what a round-trip flight would look like, what the average cost is, and more.
  • Check the price of accommodation in the place that you are interested in going to. like the average hotel price. you can see all of these kind of information on Booking.com or Airbnb.com
  • And remember this is the most important step when planning for a big family trip, or any kind of trip.

Decide Where To Go

It’s normal if you’re not sure where to go, especially if you don’t travel that much. And it’s okay if you change your mind a few times, (We have).

Choosing a destination may seem the easiest part and the most fun step of all. But it does bring with it some extra question. The place that you will choose at the end may depend on your budget, what time of the year you choose, is it possible to drive or just fly.

Let me give you some advice.

  • Word of mouth: is probably you’re top source for choosing a destination. Ask your friends, your family, people you trust for good vacation recommendations. Listen to their own experience, see what they liked about the place and what they don’t, and find what you can do there if you decided to go.
  • Social media: Facebook, instagram, twitter, they aren’t just for getting likes and finding girlfriends or boyfriends, you can use them to find some awesome travel destinations as well.
  • Visit places they have your friends or family in, not only they can help you save money on accommodations, but they can fill you in on things to do there.

Figure Out The Goal Of Your Trip

Do you want to have an action packed adventure, or do you want to have a very relaxing revitalizing vacation with your family in one of Thailand islands.

What is the goal of your trip? The answer to this question will help you with the planning process. because you can really focus on the best things to plan for what you want to bring home with you at the end of your trip.

For example, if you want to travel to Europe, and your goal is to have more of a culture experience. Maybe you want to focus on what churches, and what museums you want to see.

Or you want to know more about how other people live in their countries, or something else. Having that as your focal point makes the planning process much easier for you.

Just come up with your goal so that you can make sure you’re planning accordingly.

Choose a Perfect Time to Travel

The time when you want to travel is just as important as where you want travel. Matterfact, your timing can save you hundreds, possibly thousands of dollars in airfare and accomodations.

Summer is always going to be the busiest time of the year for taking vacations, basically the children will be free from school, and you will have your yearly time for vacation, means that the magore families will be traveling a lot during this time, and it will be a bit expensive.

But if you have some flexibility in choosing your vacation time, you should go for the shoulder seasons. This is the time between the high seasons and the law seasons.

You can take advantage of the good weather at a certain destination. also the flights and the accommodation at this time are much cheaper. Meaning that you can save more money for other places to visit.

Start Saving

Once you find your travel destination, and you pick your travel season, and find the cheapest flight for you and your family. It’s time to start saving.

Simply the way we do it is by setting a goal. like, every month me and my family will save a certain amount of money. And at the end of the sixth month will be able to go for a family vacation.

When you see it this way, and you set a goal it will become easier to save money for your vacation.

Create a Loose Itinerary

This step it totally depends on what kind of trip you are taking. If you just want to go and have some relaxing beach time with family. Then you shouldn’t really have to do a ton of planning.

But if you are planning on kind of traveling more and moving from place to place, it probably is a good idea to plan at least a little bit day by day.
For example, if the trip is 10 days or less, then you should try to plan about one thing that you definitely want to do per day for each day. Just to make sure that you are on schedule, and that you have enough time to see and do everything that you want to do.

But if the trip is longer than 10 days I wouldn’t recommend planning a day by day. You can simply have in your head that you want to do these certain things at this time, you don’t have to get too crazy with scheduling, because you have enough time.

Remember do not over scheduling. Travel with family is all about having a good time and spending more time with your kids. And if you plan too much it can feel very rushed and then you don’t enjoy the actual place.

I recommend planning one major thing per day, so that you make sure you get that done. And then anything else that you can fit in between, after, before will be a plus.

Expect The Unexpected

No matter how well you plan. No matter how specific your details are. Something, somehow will go wrong at some point. and that’s traveling.

You accidentally swim with your phone in your pocket (I did it so many times), your luggage get damaged along the road, some thieves stole your backpack with some essential on it. Yeah, those things do happen in vacations. So expect something not to go according to the plan.

You don’t have to be afraid and focus a lot on things like this, just prepare for it, and when it happens you’ll get over it easily. And hopefully your family vacation will go as planned.

Get Packing

Once you have finished all the steps from setting you budget and finding a travel destination, to create a travel schedule. It’s time to start packing your items.

And packing is one of the most important things when it comes to travel. It seems easier, but once you open your suitcase and start storing clothes on it, you definitely gonna end up overpacking.

What I recommend is to pack just the essentials. And not everything you see in front of you, just two from each thing you want, That should be enough. And of course you can buy things from the place you are willing to go if you forget something.

Go And Enjoy Your Family Trip

So once you get here, and you have done the work, live it up! The work is done and the fun has just started. The trip is not going to follow you home, just do everything you want to do with your family and enjoy the happy family moments.

Take as many pictures as possible, buy souvenirs, eat in the local restaurant, go to the beaches, visit the nature, everything you dreamed of to do when you were back home, do it now.

Conclusion

Traveling with family can be a little bit challenging, and it can take some time to plan for. But honestly it deserves it. Because our families are all we got in this world, and it’s so much satisfying traveling and having some good time with them.

You just need to plan it well. And with this complete guide on how to plan a big family vacation, will help you so much for your next family planning trip.
